Does anyone know what the differences are between a TJ NP231 and a YJ NP231?

the 4wd gear on the YJ has a cage needle bearing...which needs to be pressed out or removed for SYE install...

Not all of them have the needle bearings.
At some time, I think 2000 they changed the input bearing and although thte case dimentions are the same you need to be careful when swaping parts. Also, TJ's have a different tail housing and tail shaft ballancer that don't leak if you loose the slip yoke. Bottom line is none of these things relly effect a swap if you are replacing the entire unit if the slpine count on the input is the same.
Oh yea, on a YJ the case bolts are sae, on the tj they are metric.
