Looking for recommendations on a replacement.
Thinking 1 TB.
It's for a Dell, not that that should matter.

I've always had good luck with Seagate. Can't recommend a specific model without knowing if you need a standard IDE drive, Sata or the newer Sata 300. But, newegg.com usually has great prices and ships from NJ.
Current is a Samsung HD501LJ which is a SATA drive.
X2 on Seagate. Running duals in my laptop right now. Grab a 7200 rpm drive for a little extra performance...
Keep your eyes out here for a good deal: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/sata/
Trust me on this, Hard drive failures tend to accelerate, not die slow. So back up now. FYI, I just bought a 1TB Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm). I now have 3 of them. Great drives.
Here are the Seagate 1TB drives. http://www.newegg.com/Product/…201035313496&name=Seagate I'd get one of the 7200rpm drives, they're faster (well, duh. but really, they access data quicker) The more expensive one has a 5 year warranty vs the 3 year warranty, but it's $70 more, basically 78% more expensive for 60% more warranty. I'd get the cheaper one, actually I probably will next week, I've been meaning to get an extra 1TB drive.
Getting ready to move on this.
Thinking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/…aspx?Item=N82E16822148337
It's listed as a "SATA 3.0GB/s" drive.
I know my interface is SATA, not sure of the speed though. How do I find out?
Lots of bad reviews for the Seagate.
Thinking this one now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/…aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
5 year warranty on it too.
$70 for a 1TB Hitachi...3yr warranty and free shipping.

I recently bought 4 1TB Hitachi drives (not these...I got the 5900RPM "green" drives) for my NAS and they're fine.
So if I buy a bare drive, I will need a cable also ?

No , bare drive is just a drive packaged for production. No instructions, no software. As for bad reviews, all drives fail. All manufacturers juggle cost/quality.

hear is a real nide deal on a 1.5TB drive
well, you'll need a cable if you want to have both drives installed at the same time and don't have any extra cables. Check in the case and see if there are extra extra. SATA cables are usually flat red cables about 1/2" wide.
I have at least 12 cables at home, I can send you one..

I plan to install the new one, install XP on it and make it the boot drive.
I'll keep the dieing one active until I can get all muystuff off of it,
