You mean the "axles" I think, not the "differentials".

Better to jack and count.

Tags and stamps are only for sure if it was never re-geared.

Also I only swapped out the differentials because the parts Jeep had 4 inch lift springs so it was easiest to just roll the whole assembly under and bolt it up.

If it has the 2 piece axle shafts (tapered axles) you could have a spun or loose hub. Either way I'd pull the axle and take a look to see if there was any sign of it rubbing on the housing.

Chances of the two differentials having the same ratio is a crap shoot. Could be anything. Only way to tell for sure is to count teeth or get the stamping off the ring gear that will tell you the teeth count.

Andy are they still narrow track axels. If so drop me a line and we can work out a deal on a set of one peice axels.

I threw a narrow track AMC20 with 1 piece axles out a few years ago. Nobody wanted it.

Andy, I'm not sure about narrow tracks but I have wide tracks and had a truss built and welded the tubes. I plan to install one piece axles and from what I've read and have been told is pretty solid after doing this...
