Sweet, I'm still leaking

  • April 15 - My jeep overheats at Paragon before I even get started on the run, Fan Clutch is broken / worn out.
April 16 - I notice my jeep is leaking oil slowly
April 17 - Newark Jeep replaces my fan clutch, replaces oil filter, claims that will fix the oil leak
April 18 - Jeep still leaking oil
April 19 - NJ dyes my oil to make sure it is oil that is leaking
April 21 - NJ confirms that it is oil leaking, tells me my rear main seal is causing the leak. NJ orders replacement seal
April 27 - I drop my jeep off to have rear main seal fixed/replaced Thurs/Friday. NJ indicates there will be no problem having my jeep ready first thing monday morning
May 1 - Jeep is not ready. NJ shuttles me home, claims jeep will be ready by 10AM. 9:30 AM they notify me that jeep will not be done in time, offers me a rental. At roughly 3PM they say jeep will not be done until 7/8PM, available next day
May 2 - After calling first thing in the morning, I find out that jeep is still not ready. Continue driving rental. Get call in PM saying jeep is ready to be picked up. Pick up jeep on way home from work.
May 3 - Today - Jeep still leaking

    Goody.

  • This seams to be the worst part. This is between the engine and the tranny:

It's leaking in an area that is dumping it onto the skid plates, and was leaking out of the holes in the skid plate:

    Any ideas?

  • back to the dealer....

it is a new jeep... they gotta fix it no matter how many times it takes.

it does look like a rear main seal.. my ford truck leaks from the same spot.

  • yeah, looks like the rear main seal is still leaking...

  • Delaware does have a lemon law. Three strikes and they're out. Sounds like more than just the rear main seal even though that is where it's coming from.

But what would I do? Well I'd just keep on wheeling every chance I got. I'd go to the night run in Wharton and submarine that rental car. When they get the rental car back explain that you bought a Jeep to go Jeeping and rental car or Jeep, that's what you intend to do. Then explain what GWNF is and tell them they better have it right this time because rental car or Jeep, you're driving out there with the top down...and you know how to use a sawzall. (Guam)

    ok back to topic...

sounds like you need either another dealer tech or another dealer... remember though.. techs are human.. sometimes they make mistakes too...

  • They could have not gotten the oil pan gasket set right in the back. They can be a pain. It's a stupid set up in my opinion.

    But definately take it back.

The sad part is it had never been crawling before this happened, only mudding.... =)

  • Mudding is harder on the drive train than crawling IMO. But neither should have made the rear main seal go out.

The could have put the seal in backwards too.
