• Is there anyway we can store video files in our gallery, much the same we store photos? That would be a cool benefit for being a member and we could store video files of club runs. Maybe if there were a convenient means of accessing the recordings people would begin video taping more.

    ...just a thought.

  • I just thought it would be more convenient if it were here, as well as a nice benefit for members.

  • well, the mysterious new image gallery I've been promising for a couple months has the capability to host videos, but I'd have to set a size limit for the videos to keep from overloading the server with gigantic movies. youtube, google, streetfire, etc are all much better options for video hosting, since they can convert the videos uploaded to be downloaded easier.

  • I would rather see it just posted on the other sites personally, because then who's gonna moderate the content of the videos???

i highly doubt any _would _ post porn
but my first guess would be the moderators who were voted on
    would moderate the vids

  • There are OTHER options but I'm not sure they are better.

On the MEMBER PERK standpoint, it would be a nice benefit and make us different from other club websights. The moderators would justify the content, just as they would any links to Youtube or the other video hosting sights.

My thought was to have the capability of having our own TRAIL run videos hosted, not just copies of what we see elsewhere. If we had the capability it may initiate the desire for people to film their own trail expeditions.

If you want a trail ride video hosted on the site, I'm sure Jerry can set up a link for it to be downloaded and what not. I think that it's gonna take a lot of work to get the videos the way you guys want them to. I totally think that youtube is gonna be be better option.

Yea, its a great member perk, I agree. But the people that weren't paying for the membership were just hosting at youtube or another site before this....and they probably like that site just as much. I personally as a moderator do not want to have to control what is on the videos.

It may not be porn that people post, but it may be another video of something that someone might be offended by, or something illegal. I don't think we want to put our name on that something. What if we have a member wheel illegally in an area and post a video about it? What if they didn't know it wasn't legal to ride there? (Yea I know..."what if")

Google is one of the easist sites I've ever uploaded to. Youtube comes in second. Heck, myspace is easy too!

  • well, lets just wait until I see what the gallery can handle. as for trail videos, I don't have a problem editing them for the web and uploading them directly onto the server.

  • The problems I've seen with Youtube and other sights is that when you link to them you are also linking to "questionable" advertisements on that sight. Keeping the PG13 rating could come into question based on the advertisements associated with those links.

you shouldn't have that problem with google --- there are no ads.

  • I have web space for video's, and more website coming soon as my magazine launches. If it's specific club related trail ride video I'd be willing to host some of it. That way it would be completely ad free and under the club's control as far as content.

It couldn't be a whole lot of video, but if its club trail ride or events like Jeeps for Joy I'd be willing to lend some space out.

    u wouldnt control the vid
just whether or not to leave it posted as a link
a moderator in of a message board shouldnt decide what to moderate and what not to moferate
if ur gonna be in the position then be _in_ the position
so when is vid is posted now
u dont look at it to see what it is ?

im sure most members would only post vids of a deja trail ride anyway

lets bring it up at a meeting to dicuss it more
or if its even worth it
aslong as it wont be too much trouble for jerry to make it happen
    lets do it
if its nothing but a hassle for jerry
then we can go from there

he already does enough for us on the site

  • That really is not the issue.

The issue is the amount of bandwidth that videos hosted here will consume from everyone watching them.

Again, there is NOTHING to be gained by hosting them on this site.

    dont get me wrong
    i agree
but it would still be just kool
    if we could
but like josh said most ppl _do_ host the vids elsewhere
