November 14th Trail Report

  • It was another wet day on the trails but we had a good showing considering.

I'll do the trail report for our group and maybe Randy, John, or Ian can jump in with their groups report as it was a big group and I'm not sure I remember everyone who was in their group.

We had the smallest group out there consisting only of myself, Jason (J-Man), Ed (2000Sahara), and Chis (JeepSahara).
Although we had a lot of fun, I can't remember a more trouble filled day. The only Jeep to escape alive was of course, Jason's $100 XJ.

    Trails in order were: B-1c-1a-1-1a-A-D-E-25-Boot Hill-S-22-S-Quary-Shoot the moon-E-B-C-Yellow Jacket-C-B-END

    Trail Damage:
2000Sahara- Front coil popped out and a LCA end pulled out of the control arm ending his day.
KnoxRents- Inner bead broke, broken axleshaft, bent brake caliper bolts. Also, my hub fell off.
JeepSahara- Broke something in his rear axle. Not sure what yet

Pics here: (Some of the pics uploaded from my camera funny. I'll fix them later)

  • Oh yeah. Sal (Solomi) road shotgun with me and did an excellent job of keeping the black mud flinging up from landing on my seats. Thanks buddy. ;D

  • Yeah I also had a broken shock and disconnected driveshaft due to the johnny joint ripping out of the bung....BTW, with the help of everyone, we managed to crossthread my johnny joint back in and get the DS connected back up for a quick fix. We ended up making it 90% of the way back and the frigging thing broke again. It took us 45 minutes to yank the axle back in place reconnect the DS (Again) and Hillbilly engineer a ratchet strap nightmare, but we made it back near the comp course. I walked the rest of the way to the truck and drove the trailer to the jeep.
Thanks Agian everyone for you help and patience. Still had fun even with the breakage.

  • Was it the stub shaft that broke?

Yep. It's always fun to look out the drivers side window to see your wheel in this position. :bang:

Who's control arm was it? Store bought or homemade?

Currie Ends with home made arms. It seemed like it just wasn't threaded deep enough inside the arm initially.

  • Just got home a little bit ago. Very tired. I'll upload my pics tomorrow but here's one -

  • john why do you have the MTR's mounted backward

 funny. i might have actually launched into an explanation had i not remembered you saying this:

    Got the wheels/tire mounted...
Had to argue with the guy that mounted them... kept telling him they are not directional... they are asymmetrical, so yes they look like the tread on one side is backward from the other... that's how they were designed.

Its homemade with 1.25" Johny joints and 2" .25 wall dom. I think the Jam nut just came loose and it wasnt threaded enough ....Most likely my own fault.

  • I had a blast yesterday! Thanks to Jason to leading the whole day!

I ended up tearing apart the whole rear today. I ended up just blowing up the spider gears into about 20 pieces.

Its time for a real locker anyway.

  • No, no, no, don't get me wrong now. I know it was posted. Just the amount of people that went was less then I expected would go. Like you said, maybe it was the weather. I know the other ride for Nov. 21 is a DEJA scheduled one. Looks fun though...
