*** GWNF Spring 2011 Trip - Report w/ Pics ***

  • We are home.

It was a blast as usual.

The weather was pretty much perfect.

Low 80's during the day and cool at night.

It did get down into the lower 40's a couple nights but we all made out fine.

Only rain we had the whole time started at 1:30 this morning and drizzled throughout the night.

Stopped around 9:00 this morning and everything had pretty much dried out by the time we started packing to come home.

    Attending were Patti and I.

    Bob "Captain".

Monte "Blackflag" and his wife Lynn.

Brian "Quantum73" and his wife Julie.

Brian "Woody", Jodie "Flutterby", and their kids Mathew, Jace and little Sammi.

It was a laid-back trip. We were in bed early most of the nights.

We took a couple runs to the usual spots.

Sadly, the last bit of off road adventure at GWNF is now gone.

Saturday we rode the 2 hours to get to the stair steps on Dictum Ridge and found that they are now completely inaccessible to motorized vehicles.

Might have been possible to get over this. (If it wasn't posted of course)

But, no one is getting by this.

    It's really a shame. :(

    More pics to come.

  • Patti and I set up.

We got there late Wed. and had to set up in the dark. Always fun. Love the HID's for that.

    At Meadow Knob:

We had steaks one night and Bob had to make us all feel inadequate with his giant meat:

Ran into this on one of the roads.

One of the local Rangers. They have been very nice to us over the years.

At the staging area before heading down to Dictum:

    Muddy waters:

Best $100 most of us have spent:

My trailer trash party lights: ;D

    Best part of these trips:

  • Almost forgot.

The big excitement for the weekend was a bear in our campsite one night raiding our trash.

Several were still up at the campfire.

Apparently Monte scared him off by stomping his foot, or maybe removing his shoes and throwing his socks at him. I'm not real clear on it. :roflmao:

  • And Bob had this.

I will have one by the Surf Tourney.

  • And Woody baked a cake in his dutch oven Sat. night.

Not sure what all was in it.

I know it had chocolate cake mix, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows.

    It was quite the hit.

  • It seems that each trip brings more and more trail closures!

  • I'm working on trying to get my pics uploaded, will try to get some up tomorrow.

Oh and that bear was just outside of the tent next to me and the baby!!!!! I thought someone had come over to get into a bag of chips, then I realized everyone else was still around the campfire!!!!!

Oh and in answer to the question of monuments vs memorials:

  • Bob had to make us all feel inadequate with his giant meat:

Was this at the moonlight swim? :innocent:

Sucks about the trail closures. Looks like great weather though.

As for the can opener...a manual opener is faster, easier, and cheaper than that thing. Cool gadget though.

Keith, what's all that wiring in your front passenger foot compartment?

  • Thanks for the great pics and report. Glad the weather was nice, but sorry to hear about the closings. Where will we find our new Dictum and Dry River?!

  • Thanks for the great pics and report. Glad the weather was nice, but sorry to hear about the closings. Where will we find our new Dictum and Dry River?!

Well, obviously it will have to be somewhere there are no trees or brush so you don't scratch your shiny new paint... :innocent:

  • Must be the youngest camper we have ever had.

Most trails were not much more than this.

    Pre trail repair.

Even with the closures it was a very enjoyable trip. I would go back just to camp.

  • Here are some of my pics, Woody'll get his up eventually :spinrhead:
Just a warning, most of mine are of the kids and around the campground.
Ready for her first Jeep Camping Trip!

Lots of Critters to be caught by the boys.

Sammi had fun on the beach too!

    Dinner on Saturday night

The finished cake! It was yummy, especially on graham crackers.

    Packing up in the rain
