MD Fishermen... catch a Snakehead, maybe win $200

    Maryland DNR is doing a contest through the summer in an attempt to lower the Snakehead population. It's a "non-native" fish from Asia that's a menace to the native fish. It's also quite ugly... :) Basically, if you are fishing in MD and catch a snakehead, kill it, take a photo of it and report it. At the end of November, they'll randomly pick a winner who gets a $200 gift card, and some free passes and discounts from the state. Oh, and a free hat. :)

    They mentioned the fin lengths to identify them. I'm surprised they didn't mention the eyes being on top of the head which I had thought was a unique feature.


    I've heard on NPR that the DNR wants them killed off. I think Asians eat them. Probably another thing that "tastes like chicken".

    i actually used to keep them before they were outlawed. had 2 reds and 2 albino snakeheads. the ones in md are called green snakeheads. pretty cool fish really... look alot like a pike imo. marbled color. feel free to throw the pic on here, ill i.d. it for ya.

    DE refers to them as "Northern Snakeheads".
