I was wondering how hard it is to replace the exhaust manifold. I have a crack in mine (98 TJ, 4.0, manual) so it needs to get done. I have done a lot of work but this seems pretty involved. Would anybody recommend doing it myself, or paying somebody or a shop to do it? Just looking for advice. Thanks. I'm located in N. Wilmington.
Exhaust Manifold

It's really more intimadating then it looks. Hardest part is physically getting to some of the bolts holding the intake/exhaust manifolds to the head. Soak all of them in pb blaster before you start.

I've done it on a my old yj. It's not that bad I'm going to have to do it on my tj now but I'm going to try a different brand. I used pacesetter before. Only thing I suggest is re checking bolts after starting the engine. They may need to be retorqued.

They aren't bad to do. Did you do the rest of the exhaust like you were talking about? You might want to do it all at once.

Yeah, that was my plan, to do the manifold, cat, and exhaust all at once. Do you need to drop the skid plate to replace the cat / exhaust? Or can you work around the skid?

What brand are you going to use?

Haven't decided on a brand yet. Was going to research it this week and see what quadratec has in stock. Any brands you guys recommend for any of it (cat / exhaust / manifold)? I do not want anything loud for exhaust. Was probably just going to do a factory style set up.

I replaced mine over the winter in -20* weather!! Do it now!!

Between 4wd hardware and quadratec looks like asfar as 409 stainless goes quadratec has the best deal on headers

Plan to replace the crossover pipe that connects from the header around the oil pan and into the cat. This piece can be purchased from Napa or Rock auto for fairly cheap. I know the piece that connects from this pipe to your header was not in fantastic shape (partially rusted through).
Don't forget to look at Amazon. We just replaced the header on my mom's 98 TJ and got it off Amazon for $116. It was just a factory replacement and it came with a new gasket. If you are looking for help let me know. I got a lift in the shop now.
