Discovered this by accident. I was taking my wifes Toyota through the other week and I know it needs tires. Somehow we lost the registration. When I went through the first time I got pinged for tires, but all he could do is scribble it on a piece of paper. I simply left the lane and went to the other DMV. and passed. So the trick is not to hand them your registration, and any inspection faults wont get written on your reg, and you can go to another lane with a fresh start.

I don't think this would work for something like emissions because that's captured in their computer system.

Agreed, This is more for when you get pinged for flairs / tires sticking out. , lighting, bumpers , ect. That way you make your escape, skip emissions and try again.

I'm surprised they even looked at the tires. I took a horse trailer through on the way home from buying it in Maryland that I pulled out of a field, had some scary looking tires on it. Lights worked and I was on my way. Must be a fancy New Castle county thing

You never know who you're going to get and what they will ping you for. I went through for years with no license plate light. Never got pinged. They got my truck for it (fortunately Kathy was running it through so it passed) but never my Jeep
