We traded a Focus wagon in on the KJ a couple of years back. It was actually a very handy vehicle, good mileage, fast (larger engine) for a small car, and comfortable. We loved it because it was lower to the ground, so getting our bikes and kayaks on top was easy. After the third accident, we traded it on the KJ...and the REST, as they say, is history!

...but I won't be buying another one...OR a Compass!

I say the first one is a liberty front, grand cherokee fenders, and a chevy trailblazer rear end. Guh, its still pretty ugly. Tell me what trails you can do with that lowered rider?

I just recently read an article in Motor Trend, and one of the Jeep execs was saying that there goal was to expand the whole line to appeal to the younger croud...
who knows, maybe there have a subaru lookin thing sooner or later..
-
They're specifically going after a market without competition, the Subarus. The Forester has no equivalent (according to the article I read), and women are buying it like crazy.

I like them both.
I want them both.
I've been drinking since breakfast!

The Compass
-Cramped-up constipated Jetta wanna-be. "The cheapest versions of the Wrangler would then dissappear". Thanks, Crysler, there goes my Jeep. The Patriot
-"Trail rated, despite it's car underpinning"....wow, they really know what Jeep admirers want!!Thanks, DrJ for the warning!

i have my jeep - and i love it. it does everything that i've every asked of it and then some. but somewhere along the lines of the mods that i've done to it i've lost about 7 mpg. my window sticker said 16/19 and i get around 10/12 now. given that fact i'd be willing to try something else to get me back and forth to work, part store, grocery store, and long road trips. the new compass and other concepts may not be what people are looking for in an off-road vehicle but they still say jeep and will still be supporting the model line. i'd drive one as a daily driver.

chris (let the flaming begin)For a daily driver it probably isn't too bad. I wouldn't buy it just because it said Jeep though.
I'm still waiting for the Gladiator trucks to come out.

the reason women like the subarus so much are as follows:
easy to get into with a skirt,
cup holders everywhere (thats reason enough right there )
has almost as much ground clearance as a ford explorer
,short turning radius,(like a jeep)
great gas mileage,
all wheel drive,
very cosey inside
enough storage area to foget where you put something
if you fold down the rear seat you can carry almost anything.
all this ,according to my wife -

I think they should let the Jeep be a Jeep. Quit trying to 'sissify' it.
