I think he got what he deserved as far as the arrest but a $48,000.00 recovery? I could see a easy $2,000-4,000 for a boom truck and hazmat but 7 guys for 12 hours is crazy!
This Is Why you only wheel in a legal area!!!

$1,250 an hour for the supervisor? Was he watching from a helicopter?

While im not anti-cop, stories like this are the reason
Im no longer a supporter. This is a classic example
of authority kicking a man while hes down. Do i think
he should be fined? Absolutely. Do I think it was a
complicated recovery? Sure. But charging $50k for
what one guy in a tractor could do in 15min is the real
criminal act here.... -

They can keep the Jeep
-
I'm trying to think of how that could be reasonably justified ... Some sort of unplanned overtime for a super rare skillset? I don't see it
Like, I can see how you couldn't be allowed to just leave it ... But really? Are they allowed to do that?

I'm wondering the same thing.

Wow, a seven man team to tow it. Power line danger, you mean the ones 150' feet up. The largest rotator tow rig will not hit those lines.
#. ripoff by tow company, probably hoping to insurance would pay for it all. -
I'm surprised he didn't have any buddies that could come winch him out. I bet a lot of that "recovery time" was getting the tow truck to the vehicle and hauling the busted Cherokee out. A couple jeeps with solid winches would have been in and out of there in far less time, probably treading lighter too.
Still totally disrespected the rules of the offroad community and deserves some solid fines. I agree the tow company was probably just trying to take the insurance company for all they could. -
I read the title of the post in the voice of an angry Asian woman...completely changes the meaning. Lol Yup, I'm going to hell.

Sorry....What does the towing company charges have anything to do with the cop?Should have clarified - the last time i had the police call a towing
company on me it was akin to legallized theft. What should have
been a $200-300 bill totalled out to over $2000. Once the police
are called a shady towing company sees nothing but "$$$$"...On one side i dont feel bad for the guy, but on the other this kind
of bureaucratic highway robbery should be illegal as well... -
Should have called Seltzer Towing, motto: 'we've seen dumber'.
