Painting the Frame

  • This weekend I'm going to be pulling the TC skid plate on the TJ, replacing the nutserts and then reinstalling. I'm going to be doing some grinding to remove the old nutserts, so I'm wondering what the best way to paint those sections of frame would be. Just typical primer and paint?

  • Aaron had a bunch of cutting and grinding when he did my clayton kit. I touched up whatever I could spray with black rustoleum in a rattle can. That was late last winter, still looks as good as it did right after painting it.

  • Primer then your choice of paint. I'm liking the Rustoleum Satin Black, looks pretty similar to the factory frame paint on my JK.

  • I use the rustolium industrial paint in the silver can. Seems to apply thicker and its easy to touch up.

  • I used POR15, then top coated with Hammerite stuff.
