What have you done to your Jeep today?

  • replaced the bushings in my KOR trackbar with super-hard bushings. while the trackbar was out, i drilled and tapped it and installed grease fittings.

the old bushings were in REALLY bad shape. i didn't realize just how bad until i took them out. holy crap!

the new bushings appear to have cured my increasingly frequent death-wobble. YAY!

    Yay!!!!!! :driving:

  • Not only today but during lunch the last week I:
    -Tightened my LCA bushings
    -Lowered it 1/4"
    -Straightened my tie rod
    -Changed all fluids
-Installed a new ghetto fabbed D44 skid over my Nth skid.
    -Installed my new Xenon flares
-Washed it (Although I'm not sure why with wheeling in 3 days.)

Here's a pic with the new flares.

    :? a skid over a skid? :?

i ask because, as you may recall, i have the same skid. is there something i should know?

That skid is the best skid I have on the Jeep by FAR but it (for clearance reasons) doesn't protect the bottom of the D44 housing right where the cover mounts. My housing is worn pretty bad so I just extended it with some abrasion resistant 1/4" plate so it is flush with the bottom of the dif cover. I lose a 1/4" of clearance but it is cheaper than replacing my whole D44 housing.

  • Here are pics: (Notice I even did some painting )

Now I just have to be a little more careful backing up although I hit it with a sledge and it didn't budge.

  • Picked up a diff cover that I got from Ian a few weeks ago, a friend powder coated it for me... and it looks sharp!

    before

    after

Any imperfections are in the metal itself... (it has smashed many a rock and even chopped off a toe (long story))... Cory does an excellent job P/C and I couldn't beat the price.

  • Installed the OX dif cover.

Pressure washed the outside, underside and engine bay.

adjusted the toe in (1/8" in) and caster (5 degrees)... recentered my steering wheel!

ready to win some big prizes in NJ. lol

  • I made it through the DMV with mine yesterday. The only outward changes in the past two years are rocker guards and new tires - yet they still found a couple of things wrong with which I passed fine last time. Mainly lighting, reflectors, and illegal license plating. I thought about arguing a little over them but when the fella started quoting regulation numbers and whatnot I elected to just shut up and fix the stuff. Ah, the rigors of being "street legal".

Curious specifically what they cited you for.

  • The guys in Sussex said nothing about mine in Oct .
I can't get over how there is not a "set" standard from inspector to inspector or county to county

I agree 100% depends on who you get, And from what I hear where you go as well. I live in Sussex and I have been through there more the a few times, I have started to Know who to watch out for. There is one guy that If I see that he is in there Ill pull out of line, go around the building and get back In another line even If Im next in line, He would probibly fail you If your windshield washer fluid was low, Ok not that bad but there is no slideing buy with him.

    Fun times at DVM
