August 22nd - Rausch Creek "Report and Pics"

  • Myself and Tedsbumper made it home a couple hours ago.
I didn't have any trail damage (atleast nothing obvious) I did bend my front fender a bit, but not bad at all.

there were a few steering linkage issues, both came from Yellow Jacket, one XJ w/bent draglink and tedsbumper's tie rod went from straight to more of a "C" shape, some reddog engineering got it straight enough to drive back to camp. and the XJ was repaired at camp also.

We stayed on the east property for the most part, running blues and blacks.

in our group, "Altierior", Daddanelena, Tedsbumper, James78 (me), Chief57, and Barker (non-DEJA member, he should be joining soon)

after lunch-repair-comp watching, myself, alterior, and wayne went back out and ran more east prop. C/V trail was probably the highlight, but trail "O" and the black 8 loop were also nice rides.

chief did a little nerf bar modification and rim beautification, along with most of the rest of us adding some rock-rash to the wheels and tires.

it was a good night to camp, although it was packed, it was cool and it only sprinkled for a bit. thru the day it didn't rain at all at the park, however it poured on the way home (cleaning up the jeep pretty well)

I will post some pics later, and I am sure that others can report more, there was another group, astape, themistaken, anx1ous, and mferrari

  • I feel lucky to have run the trails with such a good bunch of guys. The group's collective Jeep knowledge (except mine, of course) came into play when we encountered some trail damage. james78 summed it up nicely. Let's also mention that there were three kids out there with us. I tip my hat to you folks who camped out, and I'd like to give a special thanks to altierior for leading the group I was in. Great job, John!

Yeah, I wish the weather had been a little dryer. It didn't rain at all while we were out on the trails, but the earlier soaking at left things wet, and the slipperiness (is that a word?) of the rocks was definitely a factor. The highlight of the day for me was Yellow Jacket Ridge. I feel like having a T-shirt made up that says "I Conquered Yellow Jacket Ridge!" My lesson for the day: Rock sliders good; nerf bars bad.

Watching the competition was a first for Michael and me....and it was the first time I ever actually saw a Jeep roll over. On the down side, my normally-reliable camera really let me down. I thought I'd have plenty of great pics, but that's not the case. Here are some clickable thumbnails from the trip. • did a thourough look-over of the Jeep, found that my rear trackbar was un-threaded where it adjusts, put some locktite on the threads and tightened it up.

thank you for the kind words. although Wayne spent most of the trip as lead vehicle, i guess i was the navigator. :D
i'll write up a brief trail report.

and thank you for spelling my screen-name correctly!

  • At least we know your air compressor works mike. Was a pleasure meeting and wheeling with you, really fun times. Hope to do it soon again!

  • Was a good time. I rode spotter with Aaron (astape) the entire weekend. Realize more and more everytime how much I need cut brakes. Mike blew a few beads, 4 to be exact, but he got good at usong his OBA to reseat them. Normal campfire goodness on sat night. Bar on friday night was hilarious to say the least. "Ouch, Fire HOT!"

that's an interesting expression. it certainly is more politically correct than other variations...

in the morning, we started off by running all of trail 2. a few minutes into trail 2, i realized that i was still in 2wd, so i decided to see how far i could make it. the rain from the prior night had left most of the trails and rocks kinda wet and slippery, so that added to the fun. i was ok on the rocks, but after two failed attempts, i reluctantly conceded that i couldn't make it up this hill without 4wd:

we then did the loop on trail 5, the highlight of which was this bowl where we each got a little tippy right about here (pic courtesy of chief57):

then trail 4 to Yellow Jacket. does anyone remember this quote?

Am probably looking to do more green/blues than the more extreme stuff... Besides, I'm more of a poser anyway. ;D

well, Chief pretty much did everything the rest of us did - greens/blues/blacks/whatever. you're not a poser anymore there, Chief. here he is conquering Yellow Jacket Ridge (pic courtesy of James78):

after Yellow Jacket exacted it's toll on our group's steering, we escorted the damaged vehicles back to camp. James78 pretty much summed up the afternoon's outing in the op. here's a good shot of a funny little predicament in which i found myself on trail O (again, pic courtesy of James78):

At least it was your front tire and not your rear. And John, I don't know why you and often the group you ride with have so many mechanical/breakage issues, maybe you should start wheeling with only one or two people and see if it continues. I have never seen people have so many issues on the trails.

  • Dude Ed, when you picked that line for me on "o" trail I was seriously amazed I got my driver side up on that rock, you read that like a book.
