Tried Ad-Aware, can't get it to run.
What To Use To Find Spyware?

I don't need to use anything on my personal computer... no spyware junk or viruses in over 6 years.
But, when I'm cleaning other computers, I usually start off with Spybot S&D. I usually put it into Advanced mode right after doing the updates and check for BHOs (most stuff hides here) and junk in the system startup. Then I'll run a full scan overnight.

Seems like their server is down?

looks fine here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlGetting paranoid now.
Google says it can't find the server and IE just gives me a white screen.
Can I copy it to a CD from another PC and run it from there?

Looks like something's got me.
I can get to the website on the laptop but not from the desktop.
Looks like I may have to spend $39 to get their bootable CD.

try the direct download link... http://fileforum.betanews.com/…1f9a95010/spybotsd162.exe if that link expired, try here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/…arch-Destroy/1043809773/1
if neither work, I'll upload the installer to my website and you can download it from that

I'm running the MS online scanner right now, it's 22% in and has found 6 items and 4 issues. That's all I could get to run.
Been reading up on worms, looks like the conficker would do a lot of what I'm experiencing.
Once it gets done I try spybot again.
Thanks!

Which porn site do you think gave you the spyware Keith?

Which porn site do you think gave you the spyware Keith?Actually I think I know when it happened.
It was from a download from Limewire.
I remember all sorts of red boxes popping up from AVG, but something must have slipped by.
I've been having strange browser behavior ever since.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Download the free version, update it, and run it. Best one I have found...Malwarebytes is really good. If you can find a copy of ERD Commander 2005 (it's not free but it's out there on certain sites) you can boot into that and manually edit stuff out of the registry. That's helped me cleanup spyware on a ton of machines for people. Disconnecting the NIC and then firing up msconfig and removing all the strange stuff from startup then rebooting usually clears out a lot of the less sophisticated stuff.

MalwareBytes is really good. My college tech department uses that as a starting place when fixing students computers. If you still have trouble with the internet after running it then delete your internet explorer or firefox or whatever server you use and download it from another computer and reinstall it on the computer where you deleted it from. I had a virus and did that and it works just fine now.

Thanks for the help.
Ran them both and found a bunch of stuff.

I ran this on Patti's PC too, she had over 400 infections.

well, don't feel too bad, most of those will be cookies that it doesn't like. Really not a big issue.
