I still have the old Catalytic converter that I changed out earlier this year. Where is a good place to take it for recycling? Also about how much should I expect to get from it?

It depends on the type and size of the cat. I got anywhere from $30-$100 last week.

Anywhere special or can I take it to the scrap yard on Old Baltimore Pike? It's like 2 miles from my house.... -
I'm not sure. We have a scrap and core guy that picks up from us every month. You can always go by there and ask.
-
Most scrap yards take them. My yj cat wasnt worth anything as it was completely blown out, think most of it was in the muffler.
-
Thing is jeep cats have very little presious metals in them so they are not worth much. If it were a honda cat it would be worth a lot more.
-
I do have some fresh nip pocket kitties . . .

Scrap yards aren't necessarily where you want to take them. A smelter is where all catalytic converters end up. I have a guy who comes to my yard once a month to buy any cats I have cut off vehicles in the yard. Problem is I haven't sold to him in over a year since prices have been down. Jeep cats can go from $80-$160. Really depends on size.

Look in http://WWW.DELAWARE.GOV website. Search for Recycling Centers & a listing of centers & map will show up.
Hope this helps. !!!

Guess this is why are work truck had it's Cat missing last year. Thieves love easy money. If it was a diesel cat I've been told those actually aren't worth that much. I had one brought to me from a friend that works at Waste Management so it came off a trash truck and the scrap guy told me $40. This thing was huge compared to the Honda one I was getting $250 for. I mean it was the size of a watermelon and apparently it didn't have many precious metals in it. So whatever thieves stole them probably didn't know the reason why catalytic converters are worth money. Size, in this instance, doesn't always matter.

I called the place on Albe Drive and they told me they wouldn't accept the cat unless I had a business license. I mean, I can understand why they'd be suspicious but they take your info when you drop it off. I also have about 40lbs of aluminum signs (HP, Reserved, etc.) that they took down where I work. I asked them if they'd take them and the guy was like sure just bring your ID. :upset: They'd only give $.50-$.60 per pound so I'll just save them for target practice.

Aluminum sucks. I went to Diamond State in Wilmington the other day with a Ford Ranger bed filled with aluminum for a whopping $63. Atleast it bought lunch and gas.
