You could also have yours rebuilt at Deltrans. I was pretty impressed with the price.

x2 on that! It only took them 3 days to rebuild mine if you take out the holidays and the couple days I had the case for the vent mod. -
Deltrans has an excellent reputation for auto's. Most of the dealership and mom n pop service centers use them. I don't think they do manuals. For those that need them done...
-
Oh I sure am familiar with deltrans, I'm looking to rebuild one myself because I've never had one of these apart, I've done countless Ford and Chevy transmissions but never a Chrysler product. I'd rebuild the one that's in it but I'd rather have one built and ready to go so my jeep would only be down for a couple of hours. It would be my luck that I'd pull it apart and need more than just a soft seal kit and clutches/bands.
Jeepman if you have a lead on one that would be awesome.

-
I might be wrong but I dont think either one had a lock up torque converter I think its because the auto for a 87 is a tf909 and the 4.0 is a tf999 only reason why i know this is because im trying to find a torque convertor now and its a pita. Because mine is making a wierd noice shifting sounds like a blow off valve on a turbo.
-
what about bolting up to motor?4.2 vs 4.0 aren;t they differant?
-
frst checkthe tork converter bolts
they tend to loosen uo and can make a weard noise
had it happen on me -
If im right you could take the lower end of the 4.2 and bolt it to the top half of the 4.0 ... I might be wrong but thats what they call a poor man stroker.
