Not sure he knows his inner from outer though. 
I just tried that on some old rusty d60 shafts. It actually works extremely well.
I always hit the cap. I like his way better; no need to smash up old sockets.

I've never removed caps from an axle that was that clean. I'd have to see it on a nice rusty joint to believe it. I had a d60 set that needed a 1" drive impact gun it break them loose. That being said I'm def gonna give it a try next time. 
I thought those were suspiciously CLEAN too. I bet he soaked them in something.
I wish we had a bigger ultra-sonic bath at work but I'd probably get in contaminating it with dirty Jeep parts.
These 30 year old d60 shafts came right apart doing that. They wouldn't budge when I was hitting the caps.
I do all u-joints like shown. Works way better than an actual press.
