Just changed the oil on my 2008 JEEP JK.
And i emptied the used oil back into the 5qt container, the jeep takes 6qts.
The 5qt container is only half full. WTF! Obviously this is not normal, does anyone else have this problem?
OIL LOW 3.5 quarts

Obviously this is not normal, does anyone else have this problem?Unfortunately, very normal. Check your oil regularly with the 3.8L.
-
Check oil weekly will fix the problem.
-
The 3.8L is notorious for burning oil. Some guys are losing more than a quart per 1000 miles. Jeep is saying it's "normal", so you need to check it regularly.
-
Mine burns/leaks about 1 qt per 1000 miles like everyone has said check the oil and keep a few qts in the jeep. I changed my pcv valve and also started using a heavier oil which has helped some

Wow, well thanks for the help guys, sort of relieved I guess that I'm not the only one, glad I caught it when I did, or else my motor coulda been kaput, still might be, haven't heard any taps or clangs. So, i guess so far, so good

Nando should get his motor back next week. Shop guys said the valve guides were well worn and that they make the rings so light for reduced friction that the motors will always eat oil. He had 80k on his and it lost a head gasket, thus the rebuild. He has pics of the piston tops coated in burnt oil. Probably was reducing the cylinder dimension enough to cause higher compresion :).

I had a 2010 that I used Mobil ! in its whole life. Had about 36,000 miles on it when I pulled the drain plug and got a quart and a half out of it. Dealership told me that was normal so don't worry about it. They wouldn't do a thing about it. Traded it in right after that.

And this is the 07-12 years?

Damn it , my jk has 77k on it.
Hopefully it doesn't blow up on me. I bought the jeep to have a long lasting reliable vehicle.
Guess I better start thinking of trading it in. -

Its a low performance pos motor that no one supports so unless u can make your own u get the same as what came from the factory.

Just goes to show that you can't beat the trusty old 4.0, I can't kill it no matter how hard I try......
-
Hmmm no wonder Ls/hemi swaps are becoming so popular.
