  • Cue Queen. We are the Champions! We are the champions..AGAIN!

Awesome day. Glad we could pull out another win this year. As always, the class 1/2 made a HUGE difference. We were able to finish about three hours before everyone else so finding out if we won was just a waiting game. Everything went super smooth aside from the consistent spotter/driver battles. :argue: ....which in the end seemed to be our strong point.

Here is a video about 3/4 of the way through Glenn's climb up the 3/4 bonus. He burnt way more tire before I started video. ;D

  • During the 101 course on Sunday, friends of ours Pauline and Brian joined us. They have a stock jk sport. They were very nervous, and concerned about what they and what their jeep could do...

Well after the last climb of the day, up a rocky steep trail, When she got to the top, she had this HUGE SMILE on her face. Then I told her, "Congratulations on doing your first black trail!"

    Her smile got bigger!

    Way to go Pauline!

  • Trail report for what I'm calling the "1 oh f*ck!" blue/black group.

Started off with myself, tonka, tonka's friend goldberg (no relation to the wrestler that I'm aware of), slowpoke, thedarkside and nutrijeeper tagging along with the 40" crew to do trail 5. On the ascent towards the end which leads to the short vertical descent before the regular hill climb Slowpoke lost a bolt in his clutch and the Jeep started rolling as he was getting in. After a near heart attack for all, including himself, we got a bolt that fit and all was well. Goldberg broke something there but I honestly can't remember what exactly happened. We split from the 40" guys and most of us did Yellow Jacket before hauling over to the west property before we did J down.

Came off of J and were on what we thought was 16 but with all the clear cutting going on I'm honestly not sure if we were on the trail or something that the logging guys used/created. We had Tonka in the front followed by Slowpoke and then myself followed by DarkSide and NutriJeeper. The first three of us headed into a ~300 foot long rock garden I've never seen before that ultimately dumped into Rock Creek. I'd pretty confidently call it a red. Based on the moss on some of the lines I would say this was relatively newly accessible land that not many people ran before. Well, Tonka made it through, Slowpoke started following and got hung up at which point I stopped progressing with the plans on backing out. To avoid the pain of having to remember the whole thing, I'll summarize by saying 3-4 hours later after a broken ujoint/axle shaft, ball joints coming off twice needed to be ghetto pressed back in and nearly losing the tire, me ultimately following into the trail to so Tonka and I could winch from opposite directions (not at the same time, at least I don't think so...maybe that was the problem), we limped Slowpoke out. It was not fun. Probably the longest trail recovery I've ever done. Oh and then NutriJeeper pretzel-ed her exhaust around the rear axle as we were headed out. :bang: lol All in all, still a fun day on the trail but man was that a long recovery. Slowpoke got the AAA VIP ride home.

  • Trail report for Tom (sorry, I don't remember your board name) and I.

We starting by following Stafford and his crew. But, when SlowPoke broke down and we were at the end to the pack there was another gentleman (Dave) who had busted his leaf spring center pin. So Tom and I took Dave back to the Pavilion. (He had run his jeep in the club comp the day before).

From there Tom and I headed out with me leading. I was trying to decide if I want to find the group or run our own course... Suffice to say, we ran our own course.

From the pavilion we took B to C to Pole Line to 1b to 2, saw a major stuck in the Mud Pit, and continue on 2 to crawler ridge. Took D to E to the South property. Took 25 to S to 22 to Lunch spot (is lunch spot an obstacle or a place to eat, we did not check it out). Followed the rest of S around and somewhere went through the Bowl. Continued to Lake Christy, nice viewing...nothing else. Then to Quarry. We were going to go down but, there was a crowd doing nothing but blocking the trail near the bottom. So we turned around and continued heading to the end of S and the boundary. We did the first half of Camel Back (someday, I'll walk the second half before trying it) and then went for the first half of Snake Bite. About 200 yard before exiting Snake Bite, Tom broke a bead on this front passenger tire while leaning passenger direction. You couldn't ask for a more perfect fix than what we went through. Lugs loosened, jacking up the vehicle to level it and it started to slid, from the drive side tire being on a rock. Stopped, ratchet strap to a tree and continued. Replaced with spare and were done in what seemed a half hour or less...back on the trail. Took E to a short cut to the West Property. Went down the Power Line and saw they 101 group giving a demonstration. Took Power Line to the bottom to 11 (now I loose track) to 11b? to H to J - H intersection. (Now I'm back on track) - Take the other 11 to 12 to J to the other 11 again to the intersection with a different 11 to 19a to 19c to 11 to 23 to 11b to H (or a loggers trail) to Tower Road to Pole Line to A to K to 3U to the parking lot and then the air hoses. Had my own air hose so, there was a hook up and we used it. I suppose we started around 10 and quit around 3, no lunch stop, just stops after each blue trail or semi-rough greens.

As you may know me...vvvvveeeerrrrryyyy ssssllllooooowwwww on the rocks. Tom seemed to be fine with that and we had a respectable distance between vehicles while doing the obstacles (rocks).

    GREAT DAY :) :) :)

Definitely the longest recovery I've ever been involved with, especially considering we went about 20 yards in 3 hours. In hind sight, I never should have had you guys over there to begin with. That was otters and is a pretty gnarly red. I had never run it before and had planned to go ahead and check it out before anyone followed. I was walking back up to tell you guys not to follow when I saw slowpoke started the trail and had his diffs sandwiched. All in all I think we did a good job getting him out on all fours considering his knuckle fell off the axle twice. I think we also had some good laughs and magyver trail fixes that were pretty damn good looking back on the experience. I will definitely pick my trails more carefully in the future when in the lead though.

As for the comp, that was the most fun of the three I've run. Everybody drove their asses of and Aaron was an awesome spotter. Not only did we win but we had such clean runs that the other teams weren't even close to us on points.

  • On the bright side, my clutch linkage held together fine. Besides breaking the inner and outer axle shafts, U-joint, and upper and lower ball joints, I broke my driver's side mirror, ripped the passenger side mirror off, put four new holes in my soft top, broke the driver's side door latch, the gas cap started leaking, and my brakes went out. I've been wheeling for 10 years and never had to be towed home before. On the other hand, we made it back to the parking lot and avoided the urge to strike a match to it and leave it out on the rocks. Many thanks to Tonka, who knew how to re-seat ball joints with nothing but a rubber hammer, a bottle jack, and an adjustable wrench, to Stafford for risking his own rig to help winch me out of there, to DarkSide and NutriJeeper for keeping me company waiting for AAA, and everybody for keeping their sense of humor.

  • All good Jay. Everyone made it home at the end of the day so no big deal. I think re-gearing would help, I think you have so much power with the V8 and then with 3.55 gears it makes it really hard, if not impossible, to do a controlled crawl through those big rock sections. Hopefully you can get it all back together for the May run.

GoPro video of KnoxRents on one of the comp courses from Saturday. We really slacked on getting gopro footage. Course 4 was a completely different thing where the goal was to hit as many gates as possible and make it out within 10 minutes which would have made for some really fun video. This, unfortunately is not that course but it's still pretty cool.

  • Report for the 101 group...

We had a large group, 13 Jeeps plus a local that joined in for a short period. Myself, Sandtostand (Bob) and Shorebird (Randy) were the guides for this. I led most of the day, with Bob in the middle and Randy running as tailgunner. We started off at the horseshoe in the comp course with introductions before covering the equipment basics, trail safety and tips. From there we went to 1b and demonstrated hill climbs before taking the trail through the blue optional loops. From there we took trail P to the Pole Line and watched a group of pickups try to recover a WJ from the mud hole using a chain instead of a strap. We took a new bypass around that hole as they finally pulled it free. From there, we took 1a to the intersection with Trail 2 at the Frog Hole and all of the short wheelbase Jeeps plus jbates in his lifted 4dr went over the steep hill before having lunch. The local took the cafe girls back to the cafe now.

After lunch, we followed Trail 1 to D then E and down a shortcut hill to the Power Line. There, we stopped at "Hills" for a recovery demo from Skeets682 and Randy and playing on the hills, a good confidence booster with the offcamber sections. We were about to start heading back when CaptainII lost his clutch on an incline. I provided an uphill anchor while they got the trans into neutral. Randy towed him back to the parking lot via an emergency exit and paved roads. Now, we split up with Bob taking jbates and his parents back first, and the rest of the group heading back via Tower Road, Pole Line (where another vehicle got stuck as we passed the mud hole) up to the set of 3 hill climbs on the Pole Line. A few of us took the medium difficulty side on the left and the rest of the group was spotted through the easier middle section. From here, we took C back to B, A and accidentally up K back to the comp course and parking lot. I had intended to bypass K but forgot that the map isn't correct in that area.

The group... Sandtostand, Shorebird, Whatevah, Erager84, JMack +son, Skeets682 +wife, jkjeeper +dog, Dkirkley +cafe girl, local in TJ +cafe girl, Captain II, pmohuds44 +husband, jbates +kids, jbates parents, and (I forgot...) in a Willys JKU.

Everybody did well, especially the new folks out for their first time. Of special note, Sandtostand was in front wheel drive all day due to blowing the rear driveshaft on Friday. He was able to do everything except the hill climbs thanks to having a front locker.

    Jerry / Whatevah

2020 Gladiator Mojave - 33" Falken mud tires, LoD side steps, Zroadz bed rack, Quadratec QRC winch bumper, Superwinch EPi 9.0, Kleinn on-board air, Kleinn air horns, lots of lights, Yaesu ham radio with GPS tracker.

Gone- 2012 JK Rubicon with stuff. Long gone- Long-arm 2001 Cherokee with stuff.

  • I've got some Gopro footage of the first half of the 101 that I'm still uploading. And some video of our guys in the comp. I cringed as I watched that stock Chevy Avalanche start (intentionally) rolling into the black side of that last mud hole. I thought he was done for.

Hey Glenn, that's me. We had a great day. Thanks for leading me around and picking good lines. That was a fun recovery from the lost bead and I was able to re-inflate the tire with no problems when I got home.

Seems like it was very lucky for us that we escorted Dave out early.

Also, thanks to Nutrijeeper for lending me a dog seat belt. I had to bring my dog along for the day and he would have been completely psychotic if he was rolling around in the Jeep all day. Purchased a similar one from Amazon as soon as I got home.
