** June 4th Rock Run Trail Ride Sign Up***

  • I don't know if I'd go there again. The map they gave you had been photo copied so many times you couldn't make out any of the trail numbers, not that it mattered as the trails we were on didn't match the map any way. Half the trails we were on weren't on the map or if they were the placards on the trail head didn't match the map. All the trails on the map were numbered and half the trails were were on were called "Sector A, B, F" and so on. I suspect 50% of the trails we did may have been atv trails but the "Sector" trails were marked with the jeep sign but just weren't on the map.

I took my jeep to the car wash today and hosed it off and looked it over. I dented my cab corner, ripped off my CB antenna, bent my transfer case skid, dented the tube on my passenger rock rail, messed up my mirror mount, ripped off my driver side fender flair and bent the guard around my winch. I also have a new clicking sound in my drive train I have to find.

It was an interesting ride and I'm surprised my windshield made it out alive. I learn something new every trail ride and now know my winch works. I also think the windshield mounted lights may look cool but that is a bad place for lights in reality. I hit them and spun them so many times this weekend and both sides I see they are an accident waiting to happen. I was also going to change the rims on my jeep so the tires didn't stick out so much, that's no longer the case. The wide track protects the body.

  • I'll go back when my Jeep grows up and gets its 40" big-boy shoes. Those guys looked like they were having a blast. The trails are marked in three levels, green, blue and black. The greens are very green, the blacks are what we are used to calling red, and the blues are few and relatively short. We got a late start both days, around 11:00, and knocked off about 3:00 on Saturday, and still had plenty of time to cover the good trails. I agree it's not worth the long drive for next year.

  • Us guys on 40's and Gaven... had a great time! Camping was a good time despite the rain and bombing around the access roads to get to the big rocks was fun. The comments about starting our days late are a subject to opinion. When doing a multiple day wheeling trip/camping it's part of the package to wake up, have breakfast, and bullshit while everyone gets ready. Unlike a typical day trip to RC when we want to hit the trails as soon as possible. But I agree, there doesn't seem to be much there for jeeps, especially the less capable ones. The front office pretty much told us that they don't do anything for jeeps and have no plans to expand for it. No one on the park BOD drives a jeep.

We'd be find if Rock Run was removed from the DEJA playlist. The group of us can plan this on our own for RR or elsewhere.

Here's some of the pics I snapped.

Ed broke his steering knuckle. It was interesting to say the least getting him back to camp.

  • I think It happend around 1:00 and I had a beer in hand by 3:45 or so. Not bad considering we were at the absolute farthest part of the park.

When we do multi-day trips to Big Dogs we still hit the trails by 9-930 (hangovers permitting) so I would have expected the same here, not rolling out at 11. It's a moot point since there wasn't 2 days worth of trails. Water under the bridge, all good. The trip was still fun.

  • For some reason I always have an awesome time at Rock Run. The layout is a total PITA to figure out but I thoroughly enjoyed the high(er) speed wheeling as well as some of this nasty trails like GURU or whatever it's called.

I'm sad I missed this one but I'm hoping we keep it for a once a year event to at least the 40" crew goes again. :driving:

Looks like a good time from the pics. :)

  • I had a good time. I got to drive a tractor trailer, wheel the crap, out of my jeep, almost roll it a couple times, and eat food, drink beer and burn stuff. Can it get better?

I was impressed by how fast we got back too. I was figuring it would take several hours.

  • I know its beating a dead horse, but iy was raining pretty good until 10:30 on fri and none of us have tops. On sat we got out around 10. Also im NEVER out early doesnt matter where im wheeling :flipoff:. Im glad we had more then just the 40" crowd to give a better perspective. I wish there was a closer club to work up there because it has potential.

    Also, what gavan said.

  • I had a great time as usual. Had some major knuckle failure but it was well deserved. Im guessing the 10 minute full throttle assault right before hand might have played a part in the breakage. We had Delicious cuisine, high speed driving, full throttle hill climbs, awesome recoveries, big fires and a bad ass 3 wheeler to rip around on (Not my Jeep), Id say it was a good weekend. I don't mind the late start since we can wheel till whenever we feel like stopping. I think the only reason we start early at Big Dogs is to get out on the trail and beat the masses. Rock run never has that problem as apparently we are some of the only jeeps that even go there. That being said I guess i can see the problem with a late start for those who show up late and leave early. .
