What are some good camping accessories/gear?

  • I've been camping for as long as I can remember and have picked up a few things a long the way (especially now with three kids in a Jeep). Still always looking for ideas. Does anyone have any helpful items that make life a little better?

A couple of my latest favorites are:
Foldable Kitchen Sink We used to always pack a bucket. This has been golden.

As some of you know, I don't use a tent (year round) when the families not camping with me but I also love having a hammock on the beach tied between two rollbars to sit/nap in. I have a few but this one is my favorite so far.

During the summer, TENT FANS have been awesome also.

  • I'd look into some kind of a chuck-box. Makes cooking SO much nicer. Here is the one I use from Cabella's:

And I definitely like the upgraded tent option, but from Eezi-Awn:

  • That kitchen thing is pretty cool. Better than the bags we use.

In all seriousness though, one of the most useful items I have is this LED lighting.

Cheap, bright, compact, and last a very long time. I hang 2 in my tent with mini bungee cords. Can easily carry one around if flashlight isn't handy...

My fan has LED's on it. I agree...very handy.

One thing I saw this weekend that was very cool was Patti's folding table. I thought my table packed small until I saw that thing. It's on the list now. ;)

  • Just make sure you go with an Aluminum body made for a mini truck (Ranger, S10). This body weighs in at 350lbs, where an all steel one weighs around 750lbs for the same size configuration and they can easily get up to 1,500lbs in a steel, full size variety. Once you start putting stuff on/in the trailer (kitchen, water tank, tent, batteries, lights, etc.) the weight adds up quick.

If you're ever in Wilmington and want to stop by for some ideas on the frame/mounting/suspension let me know.

  • Propane distribution tree. Attachsed to a full size tank. You attach a lantern to the top and you can attach a stove or burner to the other two ports.. Never camp without one.

  • I got my folding kitchen at Walmart. I do love it. I have seen ones with sinks in them but they don't fold up as small.

I also use a 2 gallon garden sprayer for water to do dishes when no water is available at the camp site.

I would be interested in taking a look if thats ok? What size axle do you have under there? I was thinking of gettting a 4500lb axle cause my trailer is a 5x10 that i am going to knock down to 5x8 or 5x7

  • I was talking a little about these to Patti at the meeting. (Patti, they'd be a good gift for Keith. :innocent:)

Anyway, they turned out to be a great storage solution for organizing the random stuff you need when camping. The bag labels were great and they got thoroughly rained on and everything stayed bone dry.
(Worked out better that our previous mess.)

There are cheaper options out there that probably do the same thing but we got a good deal on e-bay and I've always had good luck with Kelty stuff.

  • I bought one of these about 3 yrs ago at the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show.

I love this thing and use it often. I would reccomend the straps w/ it. You can hang the hammock just about anywhere on anything. This demo pic is pretty cool as well. I guess you can use the hammock as a bathtub in a pinch.

Wouldn't waste the money on the rainfly or bug netting. I bought a bug net made for cots for $20 at Bass Pro and a small tarp for $5 at Walmart. Thought I had a picture of that set up but guess not.
