Help me pick a Wheel

  • I know I know, its a PITA thing to ask and its all a matter of preference but I'm stuck and tired of staring at them. I'm looking for some opinions of choices of what to get from what I listed below.

  • I'm a fan of simplicity, especially on Jeeps (look at me talking, I have one busy rim pattern  ) so I say #4. But, #6 is pretty sweet.

  • My favorite. Fwiw, wheels can be difficult to find in stock for Jeeps... they don't seem to make enough of the popular ones. Good luck :)

  • I like No. 1. I've seen them up close and personal. And then you need Mickey Thompson Baja Claws to go on them ;D

  • For the lazy (or if you don't have hover zoom on your browser):

I like #1 also. Do they make it in a real lock?

  • Thanks Billy and nice touch with the snow flakes graphic!

They don't make a real lock, those are removable/replacable faux lock rings.

  • #4 with MTR's are a PITA to balance. They have been holding up pretty well for a $70 wheel though.

Price was exactly why I run them on my TJ. I never tried to balance them though...just threw 12 oz of balancing powder in them and called it a day.

Back to why I like #1. Even though they look good IMO, people make fun of fake bead locks but they really are functional as they protect the rim and valve stem better than having nothing.

  • #3 is nice, that would be my first choice. Had #4 and really liked them, for wheeling and DD I would get those Had street locks and hated them. OF course they weren't in black, that might change my opinion. I had the all silver and they sucked. Black would be much better.

  • Matt... if I remember right, don't you already have DC II's that look similar to #5?

No, I have 16'' black ProComps. I need a 17'' to run 37'' mt/r's so I need to buy everything and I finally wore down the wife and she gave me the green light to buy.

Thats pretty much the reason I like option 1. I like the look and since this is my DD and I like keeping things looking nice I could buy another set os rings and swap them out for wheeling and non-wheeling to keep it so fresh and so clean. But these are also the most expensive on my list and I was starting to go crazy looking at them all.

  • So far this is the counts on all your feedback. I also asked a couple people at work so that's why the math isn't right if any of you are nit pickers.. :innocent: I must say I like 1, 3, and 6 the most but number 6 looks a lot like my wife's stock rims on her Grand Cherokee so I think I'm dropping that choice. So between 1 and 3 I'm leaning more towards 1 because of the earlier stated reasons and "on paper" the ideas seem good and they make sense to work. But whether or not it really goes that way... . Number 3 is a nice looking wheel that ultimately will get rock rash on it and one day when bad enough I'll need ne wheels again.

Option 4 is nice but I think I want something a little more and Spedly's word of warning with balancing issues with mt/r's is enough reason for me not to get them.

Thanks for the feedback guys, any other .02 you want to add would be cool.

Same here. (Well, I run the D-window steelies, but same idea and price range.) Balancing powder or beads FTW

How well does the balancing powder or beads work for a daily driver that frequently travels at highway speeds? I always hear good and then bad about these but I dont have any personal experience.
