Display MoreFirst point of "no" is no LS based motor!
I dont read good.....
But they are truck motors....Much differenter
I already have one. Besides everything is LS swapped these days.
See above.....
I would almost consider a little screamer 4.8 with a good cam and some tricks,,,, but,,,, no LS!
My pops has a 4.8 in his truck, which scoots, but he somehow cracked a head recently at 160K. Went to start it and it locked up. Cylinder 8 was full of antifreeze.
Need more power

turbo the existing 4.slow. More components, probably more expensive in the long run than a new engine....!
I was looking at the Banks kit for my 4.0 but to do it fully with the intercooler would cost almost five grand. You are right that it doesn't seem worth it at all to do all that to a 4.0. -

You are right that it doesn't seem worth it at all to do all that to a 4.0.It's not just that... The 4.0 is what it is. I feel there is a much higher incidence of failure with turbo/super/stroker motors. I don't think the block is really up to the task of 200+ hp for long. Bouncing a stock motor off the rev limiter all day? Sure. Add 50% more hp? Questionable, at best.

Based on all these responses it would seem your mind is already made up...302 it is.
And here we thought you wanted more power.

I am not a huge fan of 1 turbo on a 4.0. Two turbos on 3.5 is even worse! Not following the logic here....you can't really compare a turbo being added to a NA motor with ancient roots like the 4.0 to a modern, direct injected v6 purpose built for turbos whose factory ratings are higher than the strung out, boosted version of a 4.0. Then again I like turbos, they make me tingle in my special place.

what about an old chevy 327? or maybe 396 for more off idle torque? not LS, both sound bad ass, not many out there, and easy to work on...

AMC 360 should bolt up to the T19. You can pep it up a bit for more HP.

I vote for this http://www.shafiroff.com/chevy…engine/427-realstreet.php so version of it!!!!

Since wee are just throwing random ideas out, how about a 4.6 mod out of a interceptor? Easy enough to source a whole donor car.

One nice thing about the 5.0 is that it's light -- a little over 400 pounds -- lighter than a small-block Chevy or a Jeep 4.0, and a lot lighter than an iron-block mod motor.

Gavan and I were talking about this.... It's got the "cool" factor but they are super wide as are most dohc motors. Then again he did just start hacking the front of the jeep apart...

I put a pontiac 400 out of a 69 executive in a 47 cj2a I built. It was stock 2 barrel, I changed it to a 4, that's all. They are torque monsters and have good top end. It was a big heavy motor, but that jeep was bad ass.

Because I know everyone was sitting on the edge of their chairs.....
95 mustang 5.slow
Wiring harness is basically Legos and bits of string, mostly bolts to everything I already own and any idiot can make decent power out of them.
Watch out innocent bystanders of local car shows.
